My boyfriend and I have been together for four years. Suddenly, two weeks ago, I noticed I had genital warts. I went that week to my local clinic and they said I had HPV. I had the acid treatment, and they are diminishing. Now he has begun to develop something on the very tip of his penis. We stopped having sex after I discovered mine. Should we continue to avoid sex? Is it possible that he could spread his to the interior of my vagina? Clearly we both have HPV. How long should we be avoiding sex (to avoid spreading the warts)? Is it normal for the virus to remain inactive for that long? How long will I have the virus, and how long will it be contagious for? Most of what I've read says it can go away on its own within two years, and that symptoms will show up within the first year. I seem to be an abnormal case.

Thanks for any additional info!
