Hi Everyone,

Just discovered I have Oral HPV.  Yes, it happens, and just my luck, it happened to me.  My boyfriend had no symptoms of course, but I still got it.  I tried apple cider vinegar, because it worked on my genital warts, BUT... turns out leaving apple cider vinegar in your mouth several times a day, actually severely burns the hell out of your tongue.  layers of skin have peeled off and somehow my frenulum (the part that holds your tongue to the floor of your mouth) has tightened, and i can no longer move it the way i could before.  I am scared that it will never go back to normal!  Sometimes it is hard to convince myself that HPV will not ruin my life...

I am lucky enough to have a boyfriend who is wonderful and is accepting the fact that I will always have this problem, and that he will always carry it because of me.  He says he doesn't think I am gross, but I FEEL disgusting!  You don't know until it happens to you how devastating it is to realize you have a genital virus in your mouth...

If anyone knows a way to get rid of oral warts, please let me know.  They are all over the under-side of my tongue!  This happened so quickly, i dont want them to spread to the top of my tongue or lips, or my throat, if they arent already there.

PLEASE if you have any non-damaging suggestions, I would appreciate it.  I don't want to ruin the skin or function of my mouth while trying to get rid of them!!

Thanks.

If you've done this already please disregard, but have you gone to a dentist or eyes, ears and nose doctor to make sure what you have is indeed warts? the problem with the mouth is there are so many bumps (natural bumps) that if you look and start paying attention it can alarm you... for instance at the very back of the tongue you will see bumps but they are your taste buds. If you are sure they are warts, try the cimitidine (Tagemet) at 600-800mg a day (every day) for 2 months. Cimitidine at higher dosages is an immune system booster and has shown to be effective in clearing genital warts. You can but cimitidine in Walmart. they come in 200mg pills so you can take 1.5 to 2 pills in the morning and again at night...

It is treatable and your body can fight it off. He could but it is highly unlikely..genital warts affect the genitals not the mouth, its a different type of wart. You can not get it from a toilet, you can spread it through direct skin to skin contact and that is it. Not sharing a towel or toilet or anything like that, you can only get it from sex or rubbing yourself and then touching somebody else's privates.

Are you serious? Can a lesbian get this from oral sex? I've never heard of this! How do you protect yourself from catching this?
Keep on fightin'

Yes, I am sure they are warts, I have not been to the dentist because i do not have insurance yet, should have it in a week or so...  If you could see the inside of my mouth, you would know too.  The underside of my tongue has bumps, spikes, skintag-like growths, and the sides of my tongue are full of them(and I mean side by side, clumps of spiky pink growths), my tonsils are swollen and abnormally bumpy, the roof of my mouth is discolored, my lips have developed clusters of tiny flesh-colored bumps.  This is a nightmare I never dreamed would happen to me.  It haunts me everyday, and as much as I try to forget about it, I can feel the warts in my mouth, I feel disgusting!

I have been taking tagamet, but not regularly as i should, along with the other vitamin cocktail i have been taking. I have a horrible immune system, the warts are spreading so quickly, I don't believe any of this will work.  I work full time and attend school full time, so i am very busy.  Now I am worried about RRP (Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis), an upper respiratory disease caused by Oral HPV.

To answer Beth's question, YES, lesbians can catch HPV orally, anyone who makes contact with an infected person, whether in conventional sex, oral sex, or anal sex can become infected.  The cells of the mouth are extremely similar to those of the genitals, so almost any STD can be caught there as well (i.e. Clamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes, Syphillis).  I apologize for the graphic nature of this post, but I believe it has spread to my clitoris also. You can literally get it ANYWHERE down there or in your mouth/throat.

Protect yourself! Don't make the mistake I did! If there is a chance your partner has HPV, do not have sex with them ESPECIALLY not oral! Condoms don't fully protect you against warts because they are transferred by skin to skin contact and not bodily fluids.  Warts can sometimes be so small at first that they are microscopic, and you wont notice them, especially not in "the heat of the moment".  Be smart, your health is more important than sex.

I try not to let this destroy my life, I try to be thankful for what I do have... But my dad always said "Be thankful you have your health!"  But now that I don't have my health, what should I be thankful for?  What will I have when my breathing is obstructed by warts and my lips are swollen with bumps?  God help me... It is a devastating thing.  And worse, it is something I have to keep to myself.  Life looks normal from the outside, til you look at my tongue!

Good luck to anyone else dealing with this horrible ordeal.  God bless the other people suffering in the silence of this embarassing disease.

I have oral too - had for a year now. Let me tell u what Not to do - do not apply anything containing hydrogen peroxide or it makes them spead. Mine went from being 2 bumps under my tongue into a cluster. Also I have one bump above my upper gum(all the way on top) and tried burning it w acid(salycilic and lactic) but it grew back...it doesn't bother me so I left it alone. Advice: "I don't believe it will work" is not the right attitude. "I will beat this thing sooner or later" is the one u should adopt. There's nothing embarassing and u should not feel embarassed. If u want to PM me I would not mind to be ur support group and encouraging you thru this. Also someone mentioned something about injecting one of these bumpts with some sort of virus and getting ur body to fight it off...sounded promising, do a forum search on here for "injecting". For now to relieve ur symptoms, try using clove oil b4 bedtime and I also like putting regular colgate toothpaste there(very soothing and u ll wake up with smaller bumps next morning, which is a gr8 feeling)
